Lyophilized peptide requires a suitable diluent before it can be used in solution-phase work. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which is what distinguishes it from plain sterile water for injection. That preservative allows a sealed vial to be accessed more than once without the same contamination risk, which matters when a single peptide vial is drawn from across multiple experiments rather than used in one sitting.

Handling practice affects results as much as material quality does. Repeated freeze-thaw cycling is the most common avoidable cause of peptide degradation in laboratory settings, and aliquoting reconstituted material into single-use volumes avoids subjecting an entire quantity to repeated temperature transitions.
